By carving out on the hillside, the KWK PROMES Architects has delivered the OUTrial House in Ksiazenice, Poland where some of its part were covered by grass. The only context given by the client was a green clearing surrounded by forest, which on the next step were added by another request to create some space for a small recording studio and a conservatory.

In order to adapt the client’s request, the architct came with an effort by linking linking the ground floor with the grassy roof through an “incision” in the green plane and “bending” the incised fragment down, inside the building. At the same time, the process turned the roof into an atrium which the only way to reach it was through the house’s interior. By exercising such manner, a new type of house was created and its outrial designation has reached to convey the idea of an atypical atrium which is part of both the interior and the exterior of the building.

Metamorphosis

Project: Metamorfosis 1, Renovation of a wooden house
Location: Tunquén,Casablanca, Chile
Architects: Renewal ( 2008) José Ulloa Davet, Delphine Ding
Original House (1990): Pedro Salas
Construction Supervision: Danio Ulloa Azocar
Engineering: Teknoingeniería Ltda
Carpenter: Pablo Montoya
Project year: 2007-2008
Photographs: José Ulloa Davet

Dubbed Metamorphosis 1, the house has been renovated as a two-level, single volume unit using the walls of the former construction as its structural frame. The spaces have been reorganized in a helical path, extending both the usable indoor and outdoor living spaces. Along the curving path, two panoramic terraces and an elongated sheltered deck have been added.

The façade itself has been rhythmically clad in 2, 4 and 6 inch wood slats making the house appear almost as a natural extension of the existing landscape – airy and serene, strong yet soft – as if it were always meant to be, aging to perfection. The choice implementation of wood on the outside of the structure also serves to reduce the visual mass of the 2-level house, which at nearly 2,000 sq ft can hardly be considered small. But it’s not just about appearances. Keeping in mind the environmental stress caused by the proximity of the ocean, the wooden skin was consciously designed to aerate and deflect the accumulation of water and moisture in the structural walls.

My Spore Creations

Kurtis

A strong creature found on land, it uses its spiked tail to dig into the ground looking for roots to eat. its large mouth is used to latch onto trees and suck out its sap while it stalk eyes watch its back incase enemies sneak up

Gemasaurus

Jewels embedded in its chest it spends its life protecting them, using long legs to jump away from danger and long neck to see any possible danger and ward it off with its tusks

Dextrohydrogenate

A sea bound creature that only comes on land to mate and show dominace over others of its speices. It eats shell fish and molluscs so its strong rough pincers allow it to break open shells

BallonBoy
This creature is bizzare because of its tail which in times of danger it fills with helium, because of its light body it can then fly away from danger and travel air currents till its safe to descend again. As its a flock animal when they flee it is quiet a sight as hundreds of these creatures ascend and travel together

ThornySultan

A very aggresive creature that hunts for anything to kill and eat. Living in a volcanic habitat it is resitance to heat and hardly needs water. Multiple legs allow for little time in contact with earth to prevent getting burnt.

Quaddraflight

A large bird with four wings capable of staying in the air for in extreme lengths of time. Its large beak and crest are used to attract mates, the bigger the better.

CaveBeak

Lives in caves and come out at night to fly to tree tops and cling on while eating fruit and berries. Big claws and long arms keep enemies at bay from a distance until it can flee. Very happy and peaceful creature even thou its solitary
